I really wanted to make a tabletop game as my final project for 2.00b, MIT's Freshman Toy Design Course. Taken during the COVID Pandemic remotely, there were not a lot of tools or resources available to students, so I had to get creative with materials. I ended up settling on Slideshot, a variation on the standard version of Shuffleboard. I don't have any particular problems with the standard version, but for this project, I decided to complicate things a little bit and come up with a more interesting version of the game. No offense to anyone who enjoys the standard game, of course.
For this project, I went through the full ideation process, starting with generating multiple concepts that interested me, then utilizing a design web to link core concepts together. I then used a technique called 'idea blocking' to mix and match these core concepts based on their network links. Then we selected a few ideas to build rough mock-ups of (sketch models), before culminating in an 'alpha prototype' to be presented to the class in a 1 min video.
